Nature´s Treasures and Rider´s Pleasures
2006

Horses and A Spa - A very pleasant hotel tour that combines riding with a very comfortable base at the Hotel Eldhestar. There are lots of choices - you can choose among the many riding trails around the Hotel Eldhestar, or relax with a little pampering at a Spa, or swim in one of the great hot water swimming pools in the area. The tour can be either 5 or 6 days long, (with 3 or 4 days of riding) and starts nearly any day.

There are a number of possibilities for the day's rides. The decision for where each days ride goes will accommodate both weather conditions and group riding skills and wishes.

* An exciting ride through the undulating valley of Reykjadalur with its unusual rock formations and many steaming hot springs where we also bathe in a gentle geothermal stream.

* A relaxing ride along the mountains Reykjafjall and Ingólfsfjall before lunch. In the afternoon we go to the health center for massage and/or and relaxing baths.

* A comfortable ride down to the river Ölfusá, towards the charming river delta. We ride through a local bird sanctuary, where we can get a closer look at a variety of Icelandic birds.

* An interesting ride into the narrow, geothermal valley Grensdalur, noted for its colourful and unusual mineral and mountain formations.

There is a visit to the spa included in the price of the tour and arrangements are easily made for more visits.

During your stay you can also enjoy great spa amenities through the medically certified national health clinic in Hveragerði. Here you can choose between a variety of spa treatments such as massage, healing mud and water treatments, steam sauna, swimming and much more.

DATES
This tour, which is available as a 5 or 6 day tour, with three or four riding days, runs every day from March 15 until October 30 and can be joined on any day. Riders will arrive in Iceland, have a rest day in Reykjavik with accommodations, then be picked up by the outfitter the morning the tour starts. On the last day of the tour, you’ll be returned to Reykjavik late in the afternoon, and have a hotel or guesthouse for the night before leaving for home the next afternoon. As an example, for the four day tour, a Monday morning arrival in Iceland would mean riding Tuesday, Wednesday,, Thursday, and Friday, with a Saturday departure. It’s fun to make the Natures Treasure the beginning or ending of a tour by combining it with other Iceland adventures.

Prices vary by season. They include round trip airfare from Boston, JFK or Baltimore with Minneapolis, Orlando and San Francisco available for an additional $75. (SF and Orlando departures a few days a week.)
